Is IPMonkey free?

Yes. The website and the JSON API are free to use, and you do not need an account. The API has a rate limit to keep it fair for everyone. A paid or donation option is planned for a future release.

Do you store my IP address?

We keep a log of page views and API calls, including the IP address, for a limited time to count visitors and prevent abuse, then delete it. The addresses you look up are not stored. The Privacy page has the details.

How accurate is the location?

It is usually right about the country and often the city or region, but never a street or a house. It is an estimate based on records for your provider’s address range.

What is my IP address?

It is the address shown at the top of the home page: the public address your provider gives your router, which every website you visit can see.

Why is the address different from the one on my device?

Your device has a private address on your home network. The home page shows your public address, which all your devices share.

Can you tell who I am from my IP address?

No. We see your provider and an approximate area. Only your provider can link an address to a customer.

Do you support IPv6?

Is there an API?
